ACFL Division 2 

We had a good 2-10 to 0-10 win over Ratchline on Sunday afternoon last in sun-soaked Cashel. The team and scorers were as follows: Paddy Collum, Paul McGee (1-0), Mark Duffy, Stephen Cosgrave, Kaelum Gill, JP Farley, Dean Cosgrave (0-1), Pauric Gill (1-2), Mark Breslin, David Collum, Mark Hughes, Cian Cassidy (0-4), Aiden Gray, Martin Cassidy (0-2), Ryan Crowe. Subs used: Podge Gill (0-1), Kevin Whitney, Nathan Maher. 

We play Cashel this Saturday at 7pm in Monaduff. The Division 4 semi-final is Sunday against Mostrim at 2pm in Monaduff.

The club extends its’ sincere sympathy to the family and friends of Aidan O’Hara who passed away recently. Aidan had a strong connection to the area and published many historical articles about Drumlish. Solas na bhFlaitheas air.

ACFL Division 4 

We had a good 5-5 to 1-12 win over Mostrim in the league last Sunday afternoon in Edgeworthstown. The result means we have qualified for the semi-final stages so well done to Graham, Darren and the lads. The match was played as 13-a-side and the team and scorers were as follows: Cody Lee, James O’Neill, Stephen Cosgrave, Nathan Maher, Ciaran Cooney, Kevin Whitney, Mark Breslin (0-1), Mark Duffy, Dean Cosgrave (1-2), Aiden Gray (1-1), Podge Gill (0-1), Kevin Whelan (2-0), Eoin Murtagh. Subs used: Mike Kiernan, Gearoid Nertney (1-0), Padraig O’Neill 

Division 2 resumes this Sunday at 3pm as we play Rathcline in Clonbonny. Best of luck to Fintan, Mick and the lads. 

Lotto

Longford 

Hard luck to Paddy Collum and the Longford team and management on their defeat by Down at the weekend. Paddy was in terrific form and his wonderful penalty save ensured Longford were in the lead at half time but unfortunately Down took over in the second half.

ACFL Division 2 

We were well beaten by Ballymore last Thursday, 2-14 to 0-11. The Division 4 team had a good 1-11 to 1-9 win over Dromard on Saturday. The team and scorers were as follows: Cody Lee, Sean McKenna, Stephen Cosgrave, James O’Neill, Nathan Maher, Ciaran Cooney, Tom McGee, Ryan Crowe (0-5), Mark Breslin (0-1), James McCann, Aiden Gray, Dean Cosgrave (0-1), Orrin Greene, Kevin Whelan (1-4), Padraig O’Neill. Subs used: Eoin Murtagh for James McCann (inj), Gearoid Nertney, Jim Rogers. We wish James McCann a speedy recovery from the nasty shoulder injury he sustained in the early stages of the match. They are out this weekend against Mostrim on Sunday at 2pm in Edgeworthstown. Division 2 takes a break until the end of Longford’s interest in the Tailteann Cup.

Longford 

Hard luck to Paddy Collum and the Longford team and management on their defeat by Carlow at the weekend. We wish them the best of luck in the preliminary quarter final this weekend.  

Golden Jubilee 

Congratulations to former club great, Fr. Pat Lennon, who is celebrating 50 years in the priesthood this Sunday. Fr. Pat was a terrific defender not just for the Gaels, but also for Leitrim, who he represented when in Carrick, where he won a county title with Sheemore Gaels.  

Handball 

A foundation level One Wall handball coaching course takes place this Saturday in Drumlish Community Centre from 10am until 2.30pm. All participants must be over 16. The cost is €20. To book a place please contact Oliver O’Sullivan at Secretary.drumlish.longford.handball@gaa.ie 

Liam Daly RIP

The club was saddened to learn of the passing of former player Liam Daly in Dublin last week. Son of the legendary Willie Daly, Liam was a tenacious defender in his own right on the team of the early ‘60s and he was a winner of two Feis Cups back when our club was known as Éire Óg. We extend our deepest sympathy to Liam’s family and friends. Solas na bhFlaitheas air.

Liam Daly RIP 

The club was saddened to learn of the passing of former player Liam Daly in Dublin last week. ACFL Division 2 

We had a good win over Ballymahon on Friday evening last in Leo Casey Park. The final score was 0-19 to 1-10. Cian Cassidy was the top scorer with a personal tally of 0-10. We play Ballymore tomorrow Thursday at 8pm in Ballymore and the next day we play Dromard in Division 4 at 8pm in Dromard. Best of luck to the team and management. 

 

Schoolboy Final 

Hard luck to St. Patrick’s NS, Ballinamuck who were beaten by Killasonna in the Division 4A Championship final last Tuesday week.  

 

Community Games 

Well done to the U-13 boys of this parish who won the All-Ireland indoor soccer title at the national community games last weekend. This is a fantastic achievement for all concerned.

Sympathy 

The club extends its’ deepest sympathy to the family and friends of both Rose Reilly (Clonaugh) and Mary Rose Rogers (Murray, formerly of The Mill), who both passed away recently. We were also saddened to learn of the passing of Alex Jones over the weekend. We extend our condolences to Alex’s friends and family and all in Clonguish GAA. Alex was a very popular ticket seller for Clonguish around Drumlish and Ballinamuck over the years and in recent times he became a prolific seller for the Gaels as well. He will be greatly missed by all. Solas na bhFlaitheas orthu.

ACFL Division 2 

We were beaten 1-11 to 0-15 by Ardagh Moydow in the league last Friday evening. We play Ballymahon this weekend. Best of luck to the team and management. 

Schoolboy Final 

Hard luck to the St. Mary’s NS team who were narrowly beaten by Fermoyle, 1-10 to 0-9 in the Division 1A championship final last Thursday. In an exciting contest, the goal only came at the end. Everyone is very proud of their efforts. Well done to Leah Waters on winning Player of the Match. A special word of thanks to their coach Mike Mulleady who has been working hard in the school now for a number of years. St. Patrick’s NS, Ballinamuck played the championship final yesterday, Tuesday, against Killasonna. Thank you to coach Enda McGahern for the great work he has done there and the boys and girls have done the parish proud. There is a great future for St. Helen’s and St. Vincent’s with the talent in both schools.

Club Mass 

The annual Mass for the deceased members of the Fr. Manning Gaels, St. Vincent’s and St. Helen’s clubs took place in St. Mary’s Church, Drumlish last Sunday. The Mass started with the presentation of the club jerseys and footballs and these were brought up by Mike Mulleady, Derek McKeon, Michelle McNally and Casey and Alannah Brady. The First Reading was read by Donnacha McKeon and an Dara Léacht was read by Leah Donnelly. The Prayers of the Faithful were read by Sean McDermott, Rachel Sheeran, Meghan McQuaide, Padraig Higgins, Chloe Mulleady and Lorcan McGann. Pakie Duffy and Carina Reynolds brought up the gifts. The Eucharistic Minister were Mary Gillooley and Bridie Reilly and the Communion Reflection was read by Pauric Gill. Thank you to all who participated and to Lorraine and Von Corrigan and Betty Creegan for organising it. Thank you to the choir for their wonderful singing and of course thank you to Fr. Hogan for saying the Mass. 

Longford

We had a hard earned 2-16 to 2-11 victory over Kenagh last Saturday in Monaduff. Cian Cassidy proved to be the matchwinner with an impressive haul of 1-10. Conor Keenan got the other goal.

Our Darkness Into Light 5km walk in aid of Pieta House on Saturday morning last was a great success. Thank you to everyone who took part and donated generously. Thank you to St. Helen’s for their help in organising it and also to Von, Lorraine and Bridie for the refreshments in the clubhouse.

We had a good win in the reserve league last Friday against Mullinalaghta. The final score was 2-10 to 2-7. Ryan Crowe and Aiden Gray got the two goals inside the first ten minutes to set our side on their way. The team and scorers were as follows: Cody Lee, Tom McGee, Mark Duffy, Seán McKenna, Ciarán Cooney, Stephen Cosgrave, Kaelum Gill, Mark Breslin (0-1), David Collum, Dean Cosgrave (0-2), Ryan Crowe (1-2 ,2f), Podge Gill (0-1), Aiden Gray (1-2), Kevin Whelan (0-1), Orrin Greene. Subs used: Kevin Whitney, James McCann, Declan Donnelly, Petie Collum (0-1, 1f).  We are playing Kenagh this Saturday in Monaduff in Division 2. Throw-in is at 6.30pm.

Darkness Into Light 

St. Helen’s and Fr Manning Gaels are organising a Darkness into Light walk on the 6th of May, leaving from Monaduff at 4.30am. There is no need to pre-register for the event. Donations will be taken that morning and all proceeds will go to Pieta House. Refreshments will be served afterwards in the clubhouse. We hope you will be able to join us. 

Handball
