Latest News – 28-08-2017

Senior Championship: We played St. Mary’s, Granard in the Senior championship Relegation Play-Off on Friday night last in Kenagh and unfortunately we were not at the races and came out second best on a scoreline of 2-18 to 1-10. This disappointing result means we will be playing Intermediate championship in 2018. Hard luck to the team and management who gave it their all and were most unfortunate to find themselves in this situation having finished the championship group on 5 points.

We have 3 games left in the Division 1 league, all of which are vital if we are stay remain in the top flight. We were due to play Mullinalaghta this Sunday, however, this is postponed until a later date on account of their quarter final replay with Killoe this weekend.

ACFL Division 3: Our junior match with Abbeylara did not go ahead on Sunday last. The league is now over and we would like to thank all the players who put in a great effort throughout the year. Thanks also to the management team of Séamus Noonan and Ken Leonard.

All-Ireland Hurling & Football Final Tickets: The club members draw will be made on Monday (28th August) in The Porter House, Drumlish for the All-Ireland Hurling & Football final tickets. The winners’ names will be on the website when available and will be in next week’s notes.

Executive Meeting: There will be a meeting of the executive this Thursday, the 31st, in Monaduff at 8.30pm. All members of the executive are requested to attend.

Engagements: Congratulations to senior player Aiden Gray who got engaged to Fiona Toher recently. Congratulations also to senior selector Mike Mulleady who got engaged to Vanessa Hayden at the weekend. The club would like to wish both couples health and happiness for the future.

Sympathy: The club would like to extend its sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Helen (Lea) Conlon (née Kiernan, formerly of Drumlish) who passed away recently. Solas na bhFlaitheas uirthi.

Senior Championship: This Friday is a massive day for the club as we face St. Mary’s Granard at 8:30pm in the senior championship relegation play off in Kenagh. Please come out and support the team. The venue has yet to be confirmed but will be communicated in due course.

Marquee in Drumlish – August 18th to 21st Our 8th Annual Marquee in Drumlish Festival was held last weekend and we would like to thank everyone involved for helping make it such a tremendous success. Thank you to the artists who provided such wonderful entertainment on each of the 4 nights. On Friday we had Seán Rooney, State Lights, Chasing Abbey and DJ Fergal D’Arcy. On Saturday night we had Robert Mizzell and Derek Ryan. On Sunday we had Small Time Thieves (aka Top Shelf), The Blizzards and The Aftermath/Cronin and on Monday it was the Declan Nerney night with many special guests including Big Tom, Una Healy, Jimmy Buckley, Mick Flavin, Dominic/Barry Kirwan, John McNicholl, Philomena Begley, Séamus Moore and Trudi Lawlor.  Thank you to the Gray family for the use of the Old School site. Thank you to the many volunteers who worked in the preparation of the site and over the course of the weekend. There were many early starts and late finishes but your hard work paid off and is greatly appreciated. Thanks to all those who helped run the Monster Bingo in Ballinamuck on Sunday and to those who ran the youth event in the Marquee on Saturday afternoon. Thanks to the Order of Malta, Civil Defence and An Garda Síochána for their tireless work also.

A word of thanks goes to Mark Cunningham at Cunningham Design and Planning Chartered Engineers for his work in helping us secure our licence for this year’s festival. Thank you also to O’Reilly’s Bar, Drumlish who were our licencing partner. Thank you to Mike and Martin Mulleady at Mulleady Properties who sponsored the festival this year.

Finally, a massive thank you to all those who came from near and far to attend the Festival. We are sure you all had an enjoyable weekend and we are looking forward to seeing you all back in Drumlish next year. We are extremely grateful to the people of Drumlish/Ballinamuck for their continued support in running the festival. Senior Championship: Hard luck to our senior team who exited the senior championship despite their 1-18 to 2-12 victory over St. Brigid’s, Killashee on Saturday evening last. We finished the group on 5 points along with Ballymahon. However, their superior scoring difference of +13 was greater than our scoring difference of +8. We now find ourselves in the unfortunate position of a relegation play off despite having won 2 matches and drawn another. The team and scorers were as follows:

The Marquee in Drumlish – August 18th to 21st We are all ready go for this year’s Marquee In Drumlish Festival which starts this Friday night the 18th until Monday the 21st. A massive thank you to all those who have prepared the site during the week at the Old School in advance of the Festival. Annual Monster Bingo: The Annual Monster Bingo in conjuction with the Marquee in Drumlish will take place on Sunday, August 20th in the ’98 Memorial Hall Ballinamuck at 3pm. There will be prize money of €2,500 plus a Monster Raffle on the day. All proceeds will be donated to County Longford Hospice Homecare. This service provides excellent, professional care to clients and ensures that they can be cared for with dignity and respect in their own homes. It also provides support to families that require this Hospice Homecare service. Please support this worthy cause as it can make a real difference to the lives of hospice patients in Co Longford. Please come out on the day or give a donation/raffle prize to any of the Marquee bingo committee.

ACFL Division 3: It was a busy week for our juniors with two matches in the space of 5 days. Unfortunately we came out on the losing side in both encounters. The first match was against Killoe on Wednesday evening last and we were comprehensively beaten by a much better side on a score line of 5-9 to 0-7. The team and scorers were as follows:

Senior Championship: Our senior team are out in the third round of the championship this Saturday evening, August 5th, at 7pm in Páirc na nGaeil, Dromard against St. Mary’s, Granard. This is a do or die encounter for both sides so we wish Gary, Mike, Anthony and the squad all the best. The lads have been putting in a massive effort so it would be great to see big support out from the parish to help them across the line.

Marquee in Drumlish – Volunteer Night: We are holding a volunteer registration night this Friday night, August 4th between 8.30 and 9.30pm in Monaduff for anyone who can help steward or work behind the bar at the Marquee.

Referee Debut: Well done to clubman Kenneth Leonard who refereed his first senior championship game at the weekend. Ken took charge of the Colmcille and Granard encounter and we wish him all the best in his refereeing career.

Killoe v Longford Slashers: We held our first senior championship match on Sunday last as Killoe and Longford Slashers faced off in the second round. A massive thank you to all our volunteers who stewarded, parked cars, directed traffic and sold lotto envelopes at half time. Thanks also to Thomas Gill and his team who had Monaduff looking so well.

Water Safety & Awareness Information Evening: Annagh Sports & Lesiure Group & Longford Sub Aqua in conjunction with Dromard Healthy Club and the RNLI ( the charity that saves lives at sea) will host an information evening on Water Safety and Awareness for our community this Thursday 3rd August at 8.15pm at the Dromard GAA clubhouse.  This event is open to all the community both young and old particularly parents and teenagers. A guest speakers from the RNLI will give a presentation on the current campaign they are running which is “Respect The Water” and the speakers from Longford Sub Aqua will talk about their role in the community and the basic water safety skills each of us need to call on if you find yourself in difficulty in the water.

Senior Championship: Hard luck to our senior team who bravely lost out against Colmcille on Sunday evening last in a sun-soaked Allen Park on a scoreline of 0-12 to 0-9. We were extremely unfortunate not to get at least a draw out of the game. With only injury time remaining and a point between the sides, it appeared as if Petie Collum was clearly fouled 14 yards out from goals. However, the free was unfortunately not given, and Colmcille were able to manufacture two further points to win out by 3 in the end. We have a bye next weekend and are out again the following weekend in a must-win game against St. Mary’s, Granard. Best of luck to the team and management in their preparations for this crucial encounter. The team and scorers were as follows:

The Marquee in Drumlish – August 18th to 21st Thank you to all who attended our Marquee in Drumlish Launch Night on Friday night last in O’Reilly’s Bar, Drumlish. It was a great night’s entertainment thanks to the great singing and comedy of Gerry Keenan. Thank you to Cathal and the staff for their hospitality, it was greatly appreciated. If anyone is interested in volunteering at this year’s festival please let any executive member know of what night(s) you are available.

GAA Nursery – 23-07-2017

The GAA nursery for children aged 4-6 continues this weekend at 10:30am at the astro-turf pitch in Drumlish. All children are welcome to attend, it does not matter if they have out before or not. All new faces are welcome.

Senior Championship: Our senior championship campaign got underway on Saturday evening last in poor weather conditions in Ardagh against Ballymahon. A last minute, long range point from Eoin Keane rescued a deserved draw for us leaving the scoreline 1-9 apiece at full time. We started the match the brightest, racing into a 1-2 to no-score lead, with Petie Collum tucking away a lovely goal. However, Ballymahon came storming back and just before half time they struck for a crucial goal and they went in at the break 1-6 to 1-3 ahead. Our lads battled tremendously hard in the second half and deserve great credit for coming back to earn the draw. The next match is against Colmcille, this Sunday at 6pm in Clonguish. Please come out and show your support. Thank you to Séamus Gallagher for providing refreshments for the squad afterwards. The team and scorers were as follows:
