Club News 23-04-2023

ACFL Division 2 

We picked up our first points of the league last Saturday when we had a good 2-12 to 0-6 win over Cashel. Aiden Gray’s excellent finish after 5 minutes set the team on its way and Mark Breslin added a second before half time with a lovely flick. The team and scorers were as follows: Cody Lee, Sean McKenna, Cian Murphy, Paul McGee, Jamie Nertney, JP Farley, Kaelum Gill, Liam Lynch, Sean Whelan, Mark Hughes (0-1), Conor Keenan (0-1), Cian Cassidy (0-3), Mark Breslin (1-0), Aiden Gray (1-0), Martin Cassidy (0-7, 6f). Subs: Ryan Crowe, David Collum, Kevin Whelan, Stephen Cosgrave, Orrin Greene. The next match is in Division 4 this Friday in Monaduff against Mullinalaghta. Throw-in is at 8pm. 

Lotto 

The lotto and April Bonanza draws took place in O’Reilly’s Bar, Drumlish on Monday night last, April 24th. The Jackpot was €12,000! Results are currently on the club’s website and social media and will be published in next week’s notes. Thank you to all who support our lotto. Schoolboys 

Congratulations to St. Mary’s NS, Drumlish and their coach Mike Mulleady who won the Schools’ ‘A’ Sevens competition last week. They beat Melview in the final 

Darkness Into Light 

St. Helen’s and Fr Manning Gaels are organising a Darkness into Light walk on the 6th of May, leaving from Monaduff at 4.30am. There is no need to pre-register for the event. Donations will be taken that morning and all proceeds will go to Pieta House. Refreshments will be served afterwards in the clubhouse. We hope you will be able to join us. 

Handball 

Handball continues in the Community Centre every Monday from 8pm to 10pm. For any queries, please contact Oliver O’Sullivan. 

Sympathy 

We extend our sympathy to the family and friends of Sr Assunta (Ellen) Prunty (formerly Breanrisk), who passed away in the USA recently. Solas na bhFlaitheas uirthi. 

Club News 16-04-2023

ACFL Division 2 

League action resumes this weekend after having a bye last weekend. We play Cashel in Newtowncashel this Saturday at 6.30pm. Best of luck lads. There was an interesting local connection in the Ulster championship with the Monaghan star of the weekend, Ryan O’Toole. Ryan’s father Seamus came from Gaigue and his grandfather Mick was one of the greats of the 1920s and 30s for both club and county.  

Lotto 

The lotto draw took place in The Mill Bar, Drumlish on Monday night last, April 10th. The Jackpot was €11,800. The numbers drawn were as follows:

Congratulations to club stalwart Stephen Cosgrave and wife Louise Clarke who tied the knot last week. We wish the happy couple a lifetime of health and happiness.

ACFL Division 2 

Short a number of regulars, we were defeated by Rathcline in the first round of the league last Saturday in Monaduff. After a good performance the team just fell short at the final whistle on a full-time score of 1-13 to 0-13. The team and scorers were as follows: Cody Lee, Paul McGee, Cian Murphy, Sean McKenna, Kaelum Gill (0-1), JP Farley, Jamie Nertney, Liam Lynch (0-2, 1 ‘45), Sean Whelan, Ryan Crowe (0-1), Martin Cassidy (0-6,5f), Conor Keenan (0-1), Cian Cassidy (0-2), Aiden Gray, Mark Hughes. Sub used: Podge Gill. Congratulations and best of luck to Liam Lynch and Paddy Collum who are club captain and vice-captain respectively for the year.

Longford 

Hard luck to club representatives Paddy Collum and Conor Keenan and the Longford team and management on their narrow defeat by Offaly last Sunday. Best of luck to the team as they prepare for the Tailteann Cup. 

New Arrival 

Congratulations to club stalwart Ciaran Cooney and wife Caoimhe on the birth of their baby daughter Anna last week. 

Sympathy 

The club extends its’ deepest sympathy to the family and friends of TC Gray (Main Street), Brian McQuaide (Gaigue) and Carol Galvin (nee Forde, Cloonaugh), who all sadly passed away last week. The Gaels also extends condolences to the family and friends and all in Mostrim GAA on the passing of Philomena Donoghue. Solas na bhFlaitheas orthu.
