Intermediate Championship: On Sunday afternoon last we played Cashel in the third and final round of the Mulleady Group Intermediate Championship in Emmet Park, Killoe. We were defeated on a scoreline of 3-13 to 4-8. A couple of goals in quick succession by Cashel towards the latter stages of the first half made it a difficult lead to claw back. However, our lads battled hard in the second half but just came up short by two points in the end. The team and scorers were as follows:

Paddy Collum, Aaron McGee, Liam Lynch, Dan Gorman, Gary Connell, Emmet Noonan, Eoin Keane, Seán Whelan, David Collum, Ciarán Cooney (0-1), Diarmuid Cooney (0-4, 1f), Pauric Gill, Martin Cassidy (3-2, goal from free) Dylan Quinn (0-1), Mark Hughes

Substitutions used:

Mark Duffy (0-1), Cian Brady, Cian Cassidy (1-0), Ryan Crowe, Nigel Kiernan, Derek McCormack

Best wishes to Pauric Gill who injured his knee in the first few minutes of the game. We now prepare for a semi-final on September 9th.

Junior Championship: Our Junior team played the second round of the championship against St.Patrick’s, Ardagh/Moydow Harpers on Saturday evening last in Moydow. We came away with a draw, 1-10 apiece, after having been four points down. Cian Cassidy cooly slotted a penalty to the back of the net with five minutes remaining to level the match. The team and scorers were as follows:

Patrick McKeon, Timothy Bouvin, Micheál Kane, Brian O’Connor, Gary Brady, Stephen Cosgrave, Declan Donnelly, Kevin Whelan, Rúairí Carthy (0-1), Scott Howe, Aiden Gray, Tom McGee, Cian Cassidy (1-5, 2f, goal from penalty), Derek McKeon, Stephen Donnelly (0-4, 1f)

Substitutions used:

Kevin Whitney, Seán Breslin, Gearóid Nertney, Mike Mulleady, James O’Neill

Best wishes and speedy recovery to club stalwart Gary Brady who injured his calf in the very early stages to the match and also to Kevin Whelan who hurt his hamstring midway through the first half.

When people think of homelessness, they think of those sleeping on the streets in the larger cities in Ireland. People find it hard to believe that people can be struggling to have a home of their own, and be rough sleeping or staying in hostels in Co Longford. Unfortunately, homelessness does exist in the county.

Midlands Simon Community have opened a new support service on Earl St in Longford Town. This service includes 10 fully refurbished apartments that will cater for 10 people with both complex needs and a history of repeat homelessness. The service will give each person their own home, privacy and dignity and it is also more financially sustainable. Residents will also have regular and often daily contact with their Case Worker.

Please support by coming out on the day or by giving a donation/raffle prize to any of the marquee bingo committee.

All Ireland Final Tickets: The draw for the All Ireland Final tickets was made at our monthly meeting last week. All club members who had their membership paid by March 31st of this year were included in the draw. Congratulations to Liam Lynch who won the ticket for the Galway v Limerick All Ireland Hurling final this Sunday. Second out of that draw was JP Murphy. Congratulations to Michael Heslin who won the football ticket. Second out of that draw was Frankie McGowan at the monthly Executive meeting last week.
