Congratulations

Massive congratulations to our own club great Paraic Brady on his election to Seanad Éireann on the Agricultural Panel. This is a remarkable achievement for Paraic, his family and parish and the club is very proud. Paraic brought his tremendous work ethic on the football field to Longford County Council for many years and will do the same in the Upper House. Paraic is only the second man from the parish to be elected as a Senator, after Eddie Bohan served between 1987 and 2007, while Junior Championship winner in 1919 with the Ballinamuck ‘98s, James O’Toole, was elected a TD for Bray in 1957

Sympathy

The club extends its deepest sympathy to the family and friends of John Sorohan, Newtownforbes, formerly Ballinamuck. John was a former player for the club in the late 50s and early 60s and was always on hand to bring players, underage or senior to matches in his van at a time when modes of transport were not plentiful. The club lost one of its great supporters and the parish one of its great characters last week with the passing of Jimmy Connor. Jimmy was a former underage player with the club, playing corner forward on the first juvenile league winning team in 1971. He was a regular at all Gaels matches up until recent years. Our deepest condolences to Jimmy’s family and friends. The Gaels extends its deepest sympathy to the family of young Finbar O’Reilly, Ballinamuck, who sadly passed away last week.
