Intermediate Championship

Hard luck to Fintan, Mick, Graham and the lads on their 3-4 to 1-9 defeat in the final last Sunday. It was a cruel way to lose but congratulations to Ballymahon and we wish them the best as they represent Longford in Leinster. The club would like to sincerely thank the aforementioned management team; backroom team of Paul Dowler, Gareth Donnelly, Lorraine Corrigan and Bridie Reilly; the executive lead by Mike Mulleady and a special mention to club sponsors the Davis Brothers who sponsored a set of jerseys and a meal for the players. Thank you to our wonderful supporters who really got behind the team. It is greatly appreciated. Congratulations to Colmcille on winning the senior title. We trailed 1-2 to 0-3 at half time but battled back and lead going into injury time by a point. Martin Cassidy kicked a fabulous point after a frontal charge on Pauric Gill incredibly went unpunished but Ballymahon struck for the killer goal with time up. We wish a speedy recovery to club stalwart Cian Brady (whose early retiral was a devastating blow) after suffering a very bad knee injury and Pauric Gill (broken nose and fractured jaw). Thank you to Bridie Reilly and Dr. Derek Gallagher for tending to the injured parties. The team and scorers were as follows:

Paddy Collum; Stephen Cosgrove, Cian Brady, Paul McGee; Emmet Noonan, Gary Connell, JP Farley; Liam Lynch (0-2), David Collum; Pauric Gill (1-2), Conor Keenan, Sean Whelan; Mark Hughes (0-2), Martin Cassidy (0-3, 1f), Cian Cassidy.

Intermediate Championship

Congratulations to Fintan, Mick and the team on qualifying for the Intermediate Championship final against Ballymahon on October 9th after a last minute 2-14 to 1-14 victory over Kenagh last Saturday. Club News 11-09-2022

Intermediate Championship

Well done to the team and management who came away from Edgeworthstown with a good 2-6 to 1-5 win over Ballymahon in very wet conditions. This result means we play Kenagh in the semi-final on Saturday September 24th. After a slow start where we trailed 0-3 to 0-1, with the point coming from a Martin Cassidy free for a foul on brother Cian, the team kicked into life when Conor Keenan punched to the net after a neat one-two with Martin Cassidy. We lead at the break 1-4 to 0-4 with the other points coming from a Paddy Collum free, Liam Lynch and an excellent strike from Sean Whelan after great defensive play from JP Farley on the stroke of half time. Ballymahon got off to a lightning start on the resumption and went into a one-point lead when they struck for 1-1 within 90 seconds. The team did not panic, however, and got themselves back in front with a pointed free from Martin Cassidy for a foul on himself and an excellent curling effort from the hard-working Cian Cassidy. Martin Cassidy made sure of victory when Sean Whelan cleverly broke a dropping ball from Dean Cosgrave into his path and he slammed it to the net. The team and scorers were as follows: Paddy Collum (0-1,1f), Paul McGee, Cian Brady, Stephen Cosgrave, Kaelum Gill, Emmet Noonan, JP Farley, Liam Lynch (0-1), David Collum, Jamie Nertney, Conor Keenan (1-0), Sean Whelan (0-1), Cian Cassidy (0-1), Martin Cassidy (1-2,2f), Mark Hughes. Subs used: Dean Cosgrave, Podge Gill, Aiden Gray, Derek McCormack

Intermediate Championship

We got back to winning ways on Saturday last with a hard earned 1-9 to 1-5 win over Kenagh in Ardagh. This victory guarantees us a spot in the semi-final with a game to spare. Trailing 0-3 to nil in the opening stages the team started sluggishly in a similar manner to the previous week but got back on level terms with pointed frees from Martin Cassidy for fouls on himself and Pauric Gill and a nice point from play from Conor Keenan. Kenagh struck back with 1-1 and the team looked in bother until the turning point came on the stroke of half time when Keenan played an excellent crossfield ball to the onrushing Jamie Nertney who made no mistake in planting the ball to the back of the net to leave us behind by the minimum of margins at the break 1-4 to 1-3. The Gaels were a different team on the changeover and held Kenagh to just one point while firing over six of our own. The scores from play coming from Cian Cassidy, Pauric Gill and a terrific Mark Hughes effort. Martin Cassidy and Paddy Collum fired over three frees between them for fouls on Gill to secure the two vital points. The final round of the group stage is this Sunday, September 11th at 4.15pm in Edgeworthstown against Ballymahon. Best of luck lads. The team and scorers were as follows: Paddy Collum (0-2,2f), Paul McGee, Cian Brady, Stephen Cosgrave, Mark Hughes (0-1), Emmet Noonan, JP Farley, Liam Lynch, David Collum, Pauric Gill (0-1), Conor Keenan (0-1), Sean Whelan, Cian Cassidy (0-1), Martin Cassidy (0-3,3f), Jamie Nertney (1-0). Club News 28-08-2022

Intermediate Championship

The fourth round of the Intermediate Championship took place last Saturday and we fell to a very disappointing 2-14 to 1-11 defeat against Cashel. Two soft goals conceded either side of half time coupled with erratic shooting and poor shot selection proved our downfall. A significant improvement will be required this Saturday against Kenagh in Ardagh at half 6 if we hope to qualify for the semi-final. We fell 0-3 to nil down in the opening stages before Cian Cassidy opened our scoring with a nice effort from play, then brother Martin converted a free for a foul on Pauric Gill. Cashel regained their three-point lead and we came back on level terms thanks to frees by Paddy Collum and Martin Cassidy for fouls on Gill, Emmet Noonan and Cassidy himself. A killer blow came on the stroke of half time when an effort for a point dipped into the net and this left Cashel 1-7 to 0-6 up at the break. There were a number of squandered chances on the resumption before Cashel hit the net for a second time and we were fighting an uphill battle from then on when the trend of missed opportunities continued. Some nice scores did come from substitute Podge Gill, Conor Keenan and Martin Cassidy converted frees for fouls on himself and Pauric Gill, before Cassidy notched a consolation goal near the end. The team and scorers were as follows: Paddy Collum (0-2, 2f), Paul McGee, Cian Brady, Stephen Cosgrave, JP Farley, Emmet Noonan, Mark Hughes, Liam Lynch, Sean Whelan, Pauric Gill, Conor Keenan (0-1), Jamie Nertney, Cian Cassidy (0-1) Martin Cassidy (1-5,5f), Dean Cosgrave. Subs: Podge Gill (0-2), Kaelum Gill, Philip Kane

We would like to pay particular tribute to Qween who came in at short notice for Aslan and had the place rocking on Sunday night. Thank you to the Gray family for the use of the Old School site. Thank you to the many volunteers who worked in the preparation of the site and over the course of the weekend. We are sure you all had an enjoyable weekend and we are looking forward to seeing you all back in Drumlish next year. We are extremely grateful to the people of our parish for their continued support in running the festival. Without this kind of support from the people of the community it would be impossible for us to stage such an event. Go raibh míle maith agaibh go léir.

Intermediate Championship

The third round of the Intermediate Championship took place last Sunday and we had a good 3-13 to 0-4 win over Legan Sarsfields in The Laurels. Trailing 0-3 to 0-2 midway through the first half we gradually got on top with a couple scores from Pauric Gill, a Martin Cassidy free for a foul on Gill and the vital Conor Keenan goal, beautifully rolled into the bottom corner and this left it 1-6 to 0-4 in our favour at the break. We started the second half well Emmet Noonan, Liam Lynch, Sean Whelan and the particularly prominent Mark Hughes providing the platform for many attacks and when Dean Cosgrave turned the ball over to place Pauric Gill for a goal 10 minutes into the second half the team never looked back. More good scores came from Cian Cassidy, Mark Hughes and influential substitutes Philip Kane and Kaelum Gill before Conor Keenan raced through for an almost identical finish to his first goal and we ran out comfortable winners in the end. Best of luck to the team and management as we face Cashel this Saturday in Allen Park at 6pm. The team and scorers were as follows: Paddy Collum (0-1, ‘45’), Paul McGee, Cian Brady, Stephen Cosgrave, JP Farley, Emmet Noonan, Mark Hughes (0-3), Liam Lynch, Sean Whelan, Pauric Gill (1-2), Conor Keenan (2-0), Jamie Nertney, Cian Cassidy (0-2), Martin Cassidy (0-2, 1f), Dean Cosgrave (0-1).
