GAA clubs across the 32 counties will once more ensure ‘Ireland Lights Up’ by turning on their floodlights and hosting community walking groups during the eight-week broadcast period of the hit RTÉ show.

The aim is to make exercise more accessible on the dark winter nights and to offer local communities an opportunity to get together and socialise in a healthy way.

Fr Manning Gaels have signed up to this initiative and we lit up Monaduff GAA Grounds for walking last night, Tuesday January 10th from 8pm to 9pm. Everyone is welcome to walk our track

Jimmy Gorman – Tribute

We were saddened to learn of the passing of Jimmy Gorman in Galway last week. Jimmy was one of the stars of our club in the 1950s and 60s. He was known throughout the county as a lethal corner forward and in the 1951 final preview it was said that “his speed and swerve spell scores”. His goal in the first half helped set the team up for their win over Mullinalaghta. His great form resulted in him getting called in with the county squad later that year. In 1953, Jimmy again played a pivotal role in securing the senior championship and league double. He again captured two important medals for the club in the 60s when he won two prestigious Feis Cups. Whenever the club was in need of a goal, Jimmy was the go-to man. His passion and commitment for the club was unwavering and he remained a great supporter of ours throughout his life. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this difficult time. Solas na bhFlaitheas air

Emmett Lenehan RIP

It was with great sadness that the club learned of the passing of one of our greats from our team of the ‘50s, Emmett Lenehan, last weekend in England. Emmett was another classy player, from the famed Lenehan football family of Gaigue, who could play in any position. He started his career with the county minors in 1950 at corner back and also played at wing forward and midfield where he displayed his “great catch and powerful kick”. He won a senior championship in 1951 where he was at corner back and throughout the year he displayed his “good hands and long clearance”. In the 4-3 to 1-8 final win over Mullinalaghta he was “in the thick of things right through”. He added another senior championship and senior league in 1953 and in the championship final himself and brother Frank contributed greatly to the victory over Colmcille. During this time, prior to the era of an U-21 grade, he also distinguished himself with the county juniors. The club added another title in 1955 with brothers Seán and Frank very much to the fore, while emigration had deprived Emmett of another medal. His skilful presence was sorely missed on the pitch in the following lean years. Our thoughts and prayers are with Emmett’s family and friends at this time. Solas na bhFlaitheas air
