Lotto: The draw was held in The Porter House, Drumlish on Monday last, May 15th. The jackpot was €6,000. The results are currently available on the club website and will be in next week’s notes. Tickets are available from the usual outlets and from any member of the executive.

Junior Team: There is Division 3 action for our Junior team this week as we are at home to Legan Sarsfields at 8.30pm this Friday.

Senior Team: We had our final Bertie Allen Cup match last Friday evening at home to Mullinalaghta. The match did not mean anything to either side as neither of us could qualify for the semi finals. Nonetheless, we did not perform as well as we could have and Mullinalaghta won out 1-12 to 0-8. The team and scorers were as follows:

Michael Heslin, Emmett Noonan, Cian Brady, Dan Gorman, Mark Hughes, Liam Lynch, Nigel Kiernan, Kevin Whelan (0-1), Seán Whelan, Ciarán Cooney, Diarmuid Cooney, David Collum, Martin Cassidy (0-3(2f)), Pauric Gill (0-1), Petie Collum (0-3(2f).

Substitutions: Dean Cosgrave for Ciarán Cooney, Mark Duffy for David Collum, Mickey Kelly for Nigel Kiernan, Mark Breslin for Pauric Gill and Mike Kiernan for Seán Whelan.

We wish Ciarán Cooney and Pauric Gill speedy recoveries from the injuries sustained during the course of the match.

Longford Seniors: Best of luck to Paddy Collum and the Longford team & management in the first round of the Leinster Championship away to Laois this Sunday coming in O’Moore Park, Portlaoise. Throw in is at 3pm.

Brian Collum’s Anniversary Mass: Brian Collum’s 3rd anniversary Mass will be held on Saturday, May 20th at 8pm in St. Mary’s Church, Drumlish.

Dublin U-17s: An interesting challenge took place on Saturday last in Monaduff between the U-17 teams of Dublin and Mayo. This match was of particular local interest given that our own Frank McNamee is the manager of Dublin. We wish Frank the best of luck in this role.

Welcome Home:Everyone at the club would like to welcome David Cassidy back home. David came back from Prague last Friday and it is fantastic to see him out and about once again.

Sympathy: The club would like to express its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Ellen McQuaide (née Whitney, Gaigue), Agnes Ryan (née Garvey, Cloncowley/London) and Rose Hynes (née Kiernan, Greagh/USA) who all passed away recently. Solas na bhFlaitheas orthu.

Minor News – 11-05-2017

Under 12: – On Saturday last, the u12s travelled to Colmcille to take part in their u12 tournament which comprised of 16 teams from Longford and Leitrim.
It took St. Vincent’s a game to get into their stride, but when they did they played some great football.
After losing to Leitrim Gaels (3-02/0-05) they recovered with wins over Mohill (3-06/2-05) and Northern Gaels (8-08/0-03) to qualify for the top tier of the cup. In the quarter final they had a very compehensive win over Allen Gaels (7-09/0-01) to reach the semi final where they played Carrick Sarfields.
After putting in a brave effort, they just fell short in a tight game (1-06/2-06). Despite missing a few key players, it was a great effort from the lads on the day. The squad that took part were:
Cian Tierney
James Garvey
Eoin Murtagh
Arron Kiernan
Eoin Kieron
Jack Nertney
Nathan Maher
Aron Brady
Ronan Larkin
Anthony Bohan
Caelum mc Gee
Oisin Kane
Chris Crowe
Leitrim Gaels went on to will the final beating Carrick Sarsfields.
We would like to thank Colmcille for their hospitality and for putting on a great tournament. The players can now look forward with confidence on their trip to Breafy in Mayo to compete in their tournament.
Well done to Eamon Gill and all the St. Vincent’s coaching team.

Annual Mass: The club would like to thank everyone who attended the annual Mass for deceased family members, relatives and friends of St. Vincent’s Club on Sun May 7th. It was great to see such a large attendance. Thanks especially to Fr. Bernard Hogan who celebrated the Mass, also to those people who took an active part including the choir.

Reserve Senior Cup: The draw for the Reserve championship was made recently and we have been drawn in Group 3. In Round 1 we are away to Granard, in Round 2 we are at home to Ballymahon and finally in Round 3 we are at home to Colmcille. The dates and times have yet to be fixed.

Bertie Allen Cup: Hard luck to our senior team who were defeated by Colmcille on Friday night last in Monaduff on a scoreline of 3-12 to 3-17. Our lads put in a superb second half performance after being 13 points down at half time and came within 3 points with 5 minutes remaining but just came up short in the end. We started the match brightly and were 0-3 to 0-2 up after 10 minutes with the points coming from Pauric Gill, Martin Cassidy and Petie Collum. However, it all went wrong after that and Colmcille totally dominated the remaining 20 minutes of the first half and went in at the break with a commanding 3-11 to 0-7 lead. The Gaels came out a different side in the second half but needed a stroke of luck if there was to be a chance of getting back into the game. This came in the form of a fortuitous goal from an Eoin Keane free, 50 metres out, which the Colmcille keeper dropped into the net. This rallied the home side and further points from Gill, Cassidy and Collum gave us a glimmer of hope. Pauric Gill ran through to score a goal and not long after, Martin Cassidy weaved his way through the Colmcille defence and side-footed in a fine goal. Vital opportunities were missed in the closing stages of the game when there were only a few points separating the sides and Colmcille managed to tack on a couple of late points to leave the scoreline 3-17 to 3-12 in their favour. It was great to see Mike Kiernan return to action after a long absence through injury. The next and final Bertie Allen Cup match is away to Mullinalaghta next Saturday at 7pm. The team and scorers were as follows:

Aiden Gray, Nigel Kiernan, Dan Gorman, Emmet Noonan, Aaron McGee, Mark Hughes, Eoin Keane (1-1 (frees)), Anthony Kane (0-1), Pauric Gill (1-3), David Collum, Diarmuid Cooney, Ciarán Cooney, Seán Whelan, Martin Cassidy (1-2), Petie Collum (0-5 (2f)).

Substitutions used: Cian Brady, Mark Duffy, Dean Cosgrave, Stephen Cosgrave, and Mike Kiernan.

Manning Gaels, St. Vincent’s and St. Helen’s on Sunday last May 7th  which coincided with Lá na gClub. It was great to see such a large attendance. Thanks especially to Fr. Bernard Hogan who celebrated the Mass, the choir and also to those people who took an active part. Gifts of a football, a St. Helen’s jersey and a pair of football boots were brought up by Philip Keane (representing Fr. Manning Gaels), Amanda Quinn (representing St. Helen’s) and Eoin Murtagh (representing St. Vincent’s) respectively. The Ministers of the Word were Ciarán Mulligan and Sinéad Corrigan (Gaeilge). The Prayers of the Faithful were read by: Pat Donnelly, Sinéad Breslin, Ciarán Cooney, Bronagh Brady and Niall Quinn. The Offertory Gifts of Bread & Wine were brought up by Yvonne Corrigan and Paddy Collum. The Ministers of the Eucharist were Anna B Corrigan and Mary Breslin and finally Micheál Joyce read the Reflection after Holy Communion. Go raibh míle maith agaibh go léir.

Safe Trip: We wish Fergal Reilly the best of luck and a safe trip as he heads off on a 6 month peacekeeping tour of Lebanon with the Irish Army.

Competition Win: The club were the lucky €1,000 winners of a Facebook competition this week, which was ran by sports website Pundit Arena specifically for GAA clubs. Thank you to senior player Derek McCormack for entering us in the competition. It is greatly appreciated.
