Latest News – 08-10-2017

U-21 Championship: Our U-21 team were in action in the first round of the championship last Saturday evening in Monaduff against Granard/Ballymore. We lead at the break 0-7 to 1-03. We conceeded a goal at the start of the match and playe some nice football to get ourselves back into the match. Unfortuntely two quick goals in the second half for Granard proved too much and we fell short in the end on a score line of 0-13 to 3-9.

The team and scorers were as follows:

Substitutions used: Conor Keenan (0-1), Brian O’Connor.

It was great to see Brian O’Connor back out in action having sustained a very bad leg injury earlier in the year. The next round is against Mullinalaghta which is a must win game if we are to have any chance of qualifying. Time and date is to be confirmed.

Lotto: The draw was held in The ‘98 Bar, Ballinamuck on Monday last, October 9th. The Jackpot was €8,000. Results are currently available on the club website and will be in next week’s notes. Tickets are available from the usual outlets and from any member of the executive.

Congratulations: Well done to clubmen Padraic Davis, Pete McWade and Ian Higgins who helped guide Mohill to their second Leitrim senior championship title in 3 years courtesy of a 0-14 to 0-11 victory over Glencar-Manorhamilton. We wish the lads all the best in their preparations for the Connacht club championship and also the upcoming League final. Everyone in the club is extremely proud of the men’s achievements.

County Championship: Well done to Mullinalaghta on winning the county title at the weekend and commiserations to Abbeylara. We would like to wish Mullinalaghta the best of luck in the Leinster club championship.

Get Well Soon: Everyone at Fr. Manning Gaels would like to wish our great club man Pat Donnelly a speedy recovery after an unfortunate accident during the week. We hope to see you out and about again soon.

Senior Championship: Congratulations to our senior team and management on their win over St. Mary’s, Granard on Saturday evening last in the third round of the championship. The final score was 1-14 to 0-9.The team and scorers were as follows:

Paddy Collum (0-2, 1 pen, 1 ’45), Mickey Kelly, Cian Brady, Emmet Noonan (0-1), Nigel Kiernan (0-1), Mark Duffy, Eoin Keane (0-3 (3f)), Seán Whelan, David Collum, Kevin Whelan (0-2), Diarmuid Cooney (0-1), Pauric Gill (1-1), Petie Collum (0-3 (1f)), Martin Cassidy, Mark Hughes.

This result means that we now must defeat St. Brigid’s, Killashee in order to have a chance of progressing to the quarter finals. That match is this Saturday, August 12th at 7.30pm in Rathcline. Please support

ACFL Division 3: It was a busy week for our juniors with two matches in the space of 5 days. Unfortunately we came out on the losing side in both encounters. The first match was against Killoe on Wednesday evening last and we were comprehensively beaten by a much better side on a score line of 5-9 to 0-7. The team and scorers were as follows:

The Marquee in Drumlish – August 18th to 21st Thank you to all who signed up to volunteer for this year’s festival at our registration night last Friday. If you would like to volunteer please contact any member of our executive. Everything is set to go and we are all looking forward to the fantastic festival which is now less than a fortnight away.

Annual Monster Bingo: The Annual Monster Bingo in conjuction with the Marquee in Drumlish will take place on Sunday, August 20th in the ’98 Memorial Hall Ballinamuck at 3pm. There will be prize money of €2,500 plus a Monster Raffle on the day. All proceeds will be donated to County Longford Hospice Homecare. This service provides excellent, professional care to clients and ensures that they can be cared for with dignity and respect in their own homes. It also provides support to families that require this Hospice Homecare service. Please support this worthy cause as it can make a real difference to the lives of hospice patients in Co Longford. Please come out on the day or give a donation/raffle prize to any of the Marquee bingo committee.

Reserve Championship: Our Reserves were knocked out of the championship on account of their 2-15 to 2-7 defeat away to Granard last Sunday afternoon. Unfortuantely two great goals by Gearóid Nertney and Scott Howe in the second half were unable to spur the team on to victory and Granard ran out comfortable winners in the end. There is one more fixture to fulfil in the group, which is at home to Ballymahon this Sunday, the 25th at 2.30pm. The team and scorers were as follows:

Longford Seniors: Well done to Paddy Collum and the Longford seniors on their terrific Qualifier victory over Louth on Saturday evening last in Drogheda. We wish the squad all the best in their preparations for the next round.

Marquee in Drumlish: More acts were announced this week for the Marquee in Drumlish Festival (August 18th to 21st). Local lads Small Time Thieves (aka Top Shelf) will play the Friday night as will State Lights. Country Star Derek Ryan will headline the Saturday night.

Executive Meeting: Our monthly executive meeting takes place this Thursday evening, June 22nd, at 9pm in Monaduff. All members of the executive are requested to attend.

Pieta House Free Kick Competition: A free kick competition will take place in Loch Gowna GAA Grounds on Saturday, July 22nd at 10am in aid of Pieta House. There is one entry per club so if you would like to compete, or like further information, please contact Lorraine as soon as possible.

Sympathy: The club would like to express its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Gary Carey (Glasheen) and Alec Rogers (Manchester, formerly of Drumlish) who both passed away recently. Solas na bhFlaitheas orthu.
