Ardagh/Moydow 0-13
Fr. Manning Gaels 1-14
Fr. Manning Gaels have gone one step closer to promotion by virtue of a hard fought 1-14 to 0-13 victory over Ardagh/Moydow in Keenan Park on Saturday evening. The Gaels were 6 points up at one stage yet Ardagh managed to claw it back to the slenderest of margins with only 5 minutes of time remaining. Backs were against the wall at this stage but the Gaels showed great character in the end to come out the victors by 4 points. It has to be taken into consideration that this was the team’s third game in six days and there were many tired legs on the field, however, the lads dug deep when it mattered and now face Cashel in 2 weeks time.

St. Brigid’s Killashee 0-06
Fr. Manning Gaels 4-14
The Gaels followed up their lethargic display last Sunday against Seán Connolly’s with an emphatic 4-14 to 0-6 victory over St. Brigid’s on Wednesday evening last. Played in glorious conditions in Killashee, the Gaels were full value for their 20 point victory with a brace of goals in each half courtesy of Martin Cassidy and super sub Anthony Kane. This match was the re-fixed Round 2 game which was initially called off due to a waterlogged pitch in Killashee. Right from the throw-in the visitors asserted their authority; 2 long range points from Pauric Gill was almost immediately followed by a cracking goal courtesy of Martin Cassidy. Gill played a long ball into Eoin Keane who cleverly palmed the ball down into the path of the oncoming Cassidy who unleashed an unstoppable shot past the St. Brigid’s keeper. The 2 points were never in doubt after this and some excellent points followed thanks to the Cassidy brothers and the hard working Darren Farley. Martin Cassidy slotted his second goal of the match before half time after being smartly played in by David Cassidy. The goal came about as a result of an excellent team move the length of the field which started with another pinpoint kickout from Paddy Collum. Half Time score: St. Brigid’s, Killashee 0-3 Fr. Manning Gaels 2-5.
The Gaels started the second half with the same vigour as they finished the first. The composed Dylan Quinn played an accurate 50 yard ball into full forward Seán Whelan (who caused havoc every time the ball went in) and he layed the ball out to the watchful Martin Cassidy who clipped over another point. Not long after, Whelan himself scored the point of the match when from close to the endline he managed to hook over a tremendous score off the outside of his right boot. The Gaels introduced new blood during the second half and Anthony Kane made his presence felt when palming to the net on two occasions. Killashee never looked like threatening the Gaels’ defence at any stage and when any sign of danger did come about, Aaron Quinn, JP Farley and Dylan Quinn, in particular, were there to snuff it out. This result has left the maroon & gold with 5 wins from 5 and they are now away to Ardagh/Moydow (who sit just behind them on the table) in a crucial Round 6 match, this Saturday at 7pm.
