Hard luck to the Reserve team who were beaten by Grattan Óg on Friday evening last, 6-17 to 5-11. The team and scorers were as follows: Cody Lee, Leon Mckeon, Caelum McGee,  Sean McKenna, Tom McGee, Cian Murphy,  Sean Gibbons(0-2), Mark Hughes, Darren Farrelly(1-0), Kevin Whitney, Kevin Whelan (0-5), Ryan Crowe (0-2, 2f), Padraig O’Neill (1-0), Podge Gill, Oisín Kane (3-2)

Longford

Well done to Enda McGahern and Paddy Collum who finished off the Tailteann Cup with a win against Carlow. A particular word of congratulations to our own Paddy Collum who has called time on an outstanding intercounty career which has seen him play 133 times in all competitions (37 Championship, 67 NFL and 29 O’Byrne Cup) and scoring 0-15 between 2012 and 2025. This is in addition to 7 Championship appearances at U-21 level and 9 at Minor (scoring two penalties on the way to winning the Leinster Minor Championship). Paddy has featured for Longford at every grade from U-13 up and all that is left now is the Masters – in a few more years! He retires with a Leinster minor championship, Hastings Cup, three O’Byrne Cups and an NFL Division 3 title. Paddy also represented Leinster in the 2016 Railway Cup. Enjoy the well earned retirement Paddy and we look forward to many more years out in Monaduff. Well done to Alex Karytinos and the Longford minors who won the All-Ireland ‘C’ final last weekend to lift the Séamus Heaney Cup. Alex was excellent all year at corner back

Sympathy

Fr Manning Gaels extends its deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Brother Sebastian (Eamon Davis, Ballinamuck) who passed away recently. Brother Sebastian was a renowned football coach and trained the Sligo minors to provincial succeas and an All Ireland final appearance in 1968. He later served as Chairman of Ballina Stephenites. ACFL Division 2

We had mixed results last week in the league. First on Wednesday evening we defeated Ardagh Moydow 0-14 to 0-6. We raced into a 0-6 to nil lead early on thanks to frees from Martin Cassidy (including a two pointer) for two fouls on Pauric Gill and an infringement on Kevin Whelan. Captain JP Farley surged upfield to also land a great two point effort. Gaels were denied two penalties after Gill and Cian Cassidy were brought down in the square but still led at half-time 0-8 to 0-5 and Cian fired over from play and also a free for a foul on Martin. Gaels controlled the second half with more great scores coming from Jamie Nertney, Pauric Gill and Cian Cassidy while Martin was accurate on frees after fouls on Gill and himself. The team and scorers were as follows: Paddy Collum, Paul McGee, Caelum McGee, Sean McKenna, JP Farley (0-2 (TP)), Aaron Quinn, Tom McGee, Mark Breslin, Kaelum Gill, Jamie Nertney (0-2), Pauric Gill (0-1), Kevin Whelan, Clayton Finn, Cian Cassidy (0-3, 1f), Martin Cassidy (0-6, 5f (1 TP free)). Subs: Kevin Whitney for Clayton Finn (inj), Podge Gill for Pauric Gill (inj), Dean Cosgrave, Padraig O’Neill. On Saturday evening last we emerged from Monaduff blessed to share the spoils with Kenagh after a last gasp effort from Martin Cassidy. The match finished 1-18 apiece. After a scrappy first half, it was level at the break 0-7 all. In the second half the Gaels took over, and when Paul McGee stormed upfield to score a goal, with Cian Cassidy firing over afterwards it looked as if victory was assured. We led by eight points with less than ten to go but after this it was all Kenagh. Deep into stoppage time, we led by a point before Kenagh converted a two pointer free. Paddy Collum fired a perfect kickout to Dean Cosgrave who was fouled. This was brought forward to outside the arc. Up stepped Martin Cassidy, facing a strong wind, for a wonderful score, which was unfortunate to clip the crossbar. This meant it only counted as a single point, earning a draw for the Gaels. The team and scorers were as follows: Paddy Collum, Paul McGee (1-0), Caelum McGee, Sean McKenna, JP Farley, Aaron Quinn, Tom McGee (0-1), Mark Breslin, Kaelum Gill, Jamie Nertney, Pauric Gill (0-3), Kevin Whelan, Kevin Whitney, Cian Cassidy (0-4), Martin Cassidy (0-10, 8f (1 TP free)). Subs: Dean Cosgrave, Cian Murphy, Mark Hughes, Podge Gill. A minute silence was observed before the match as a mark of respect for the late Mostrim player, Alan O’Hara RIP. It is Reserve action next as our Division 4 team is away to Grattans this Friday at 8pm. Best of luck to the team and management.
