ACFL Division 2

We played Ardagh/Moydow in the third round of the league last Sunday afternoon in Keenan Park. In a game with no shortage of talking points we came out the right side of a 2-8 to 2-7 scoreline. Despite numerous strange decisions going against us our lads fought until the end when Martin Cassidy proved the match winner with an excellent flicked goal in injury time after an excellent cross field pass from Kevin Whelan. Our first goal came just before half time when Pauric Gill made amends for missing an earlier shot off the crossbar after receiving a terrific long ball from Darren Farley. We were struck a massive blow when we lost influential defender Emmet Noonan to an unjust red card right on the stroke of half time. Half time score was 1-4 apiece. A terrific penalty save from Paddy Collum looked to have sealed victory for us but Ardagh managed a goal not long after. The up stepped Martin Cassidy to secure the much needed two points. The team and scorers were as follows:

Paddy Collum (0-1, 1f,), Aaron McGee, Derek McCormack, Darren Reilly, Emmet Noonan, Mark Hughes, Darren Farley, Seán Whelan, David Collum, Conor Keenan, Pauric Gill (1-1), Martin Cassidy (1-5, 5f), Cian Cassidy (0-1), Dean Cosgrave, Kevin Whelan

Substitutions used:

Cian Brady, Cian Murphy, Brian O’Connor

Bertie Allen Cup

We had an excellent win over Clonguish last Wednesday evening in Monaduff in the Reserve League 1 (without county players) competition. Despite having the majority of the possession we went into injury time a goal down. A long ball was played into Kevin Whelan who won it and laid it out to the oncoming Martin Cassidy who fired the ball to the net. Two minutes later Emmet Noonan struck over a fabulous sideline kick off the outside of his boot to seal a 2-8 to 2-7 victory. The team and scorers were as follows:

Aiden Gray, Cian Brady, Derek McCormack, Darren Reilly, Emmet Noonan (0-2, 1sl), Mark Hughes, Darren Farley (0-1), David Collum, Liam Lynch (1-0, goal from ’45), Eoin Keane (0-1), Martin Cassidy (1-2, 2f), Conor Keenan, Brian O’Connor, Dean Cosgrave (0-1), Kevin Whelan.

Substitutions used:

Seán Whelan (0-1), Cian Cassidy, Petie Collum, Rúairí Carthy
