We played Dromard in the Bertie Allen Cup last Friday night in Monaduff. The game ended level on a scoreline of 0-9 apiece. Seán Lenihan RIP
It was with great sadness that we learned of the passing of a true club, colleges and county legend during the week. Seán Lenihan (formerly of Gaigue), was a rock solid feature of the full back line for the club and Longford in the 1940’s and 1950’s. A prodigious underage player, he won both the Leinster Senior and Junior titles with St. Mel’s in 1945, and a senior title again in 1946. His performances earned him a place on the colleges inter-provincial team with Leinster, where he went on to win the All-Ireland in 1945. He again represented Leinster in 1946. His talent transferred over to senior level where he was a mainstay at full back for Longford for years and was a winner of numerous championship and Leader Cup medals with us. The memory of his performances endured, to the extent that he was nominated at full back for the Longford Team of the Millenium in 2000. As well as being a terrific servant on the field, he went on to serve the club as team manager in the late 80’s and early 90’s. We extend our deepest sympathies to Seán’s family and friends.
