Longford Hard luck to Paddy Collum, manager Padraic Davis and the rest of the Longford team and management on their narrow defeat by Down on Saturday last. We wish backroom team member and clubman Gordon Smyth a speedy recovery from the injury he sustained recently. Club Membership Club Membership for the forthcoming year is now available. The cost is €30 for adults and €15 for students. Membership is required for all playing members and for use of the gym. Membership entitles you to attend monthly club meetings and if received before March 31st, entitles you to a vote at next year’s AGM and entry into the draw for All Ireland tickets. Coronavirus (Covid-19)

As has been well publicised in the national and local media, all GAA activities have been postponed until March 29^th, in an effort to curtail the Covid-19 outbreak. All training sessions, matches and other GAA events are off until then. The club has offered to help collect the shopping/groceries/medication for the elderly and vulnerable in our parish. If you need this assistance or know of someone who does, please contact our secretary Lorraine Corrigan on 0864017301. We have a team of volunteers who have offered to help. We hope everyone stays safe during this period. This is going to be a difficult time for many people so it is important for everyone to play their part in following the advice of medical experts. North Longford Rebel Trail

The North Longford Rebel Trail/Greenway between Monaduff and Drumlish was officially opened by Minister Michael Ring recently. This is a wonderful facility for the parish. Thank you to everyone who has made this a reality

Division 1/2 Promotion/Relegation Play Off

 

On Friday night last in Killoe we played Longford Slashers in the Division 1/2 Promotion/Relegation Play Off. Unfortunately we were defeated on a scoreline of 1-8 to 1-4 having lead 1-3 to 0-4 at the break. The team and scorers were as follows:

Sports Capital Grant

It was announced last week that the club are to receive €23,273 from the Sports Capital Grant for our floodlighting on the training pitch. This is very welcome news for the club. Thank you to those who worked on our application

Our Christmas Quiz is back again this year and will take place in Cassidy’s Olde Village Inn, on Friday night, December 27^th at 9pm. A table of 4 costs €40 and there will be cash prizes for 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd place as well as a raffle with many great spot prizes. This has been a great success over the past number of years and a great night’s entertainment is ensured once again.

Longford

Well done to Paddy Collum and the Longford team and management on their win against Carlow in the O’Byrne Cup at the weekend and qualifying for the semi final.

 

National Club Draw

The National Club Draw tickets are back on sale again this year and this great initiative by the GAA has helped contribute vital funds to our club for the past number of years. Individual prizes include: A brand new Renault Clio; a €2,000 travel voucher; All Ireland Hurling & Football packages; various shopping vouchers and many more.
