Intermediate Championship  Hard luck to Fintan, Mick, Graham and the lads on their 3-4 to 1-9 defeat in the final last Sunday. It was a cruel way to lose but congratulations to Ballymahon and we wish them the best as they represent Longford in Leinster. The club would like to sincerely thank the aforementioned management team; backroom team of Paul Dowler, Gareth Donnelly, Lorraine Corrigan and Bridie Reilly; the executive lead by Mike Mulleady and a special mention to club sponsors the Davis Brothers who sponsored a set of jerseys and a meal for the players. Thank you to our wonderful supporters who really got behind the team. It is greatly appreciated. Congratulations to Colmcille on winning the senior title. We trailed 1-2 to 0-3 at half time but battled back and lead going into injury time by a point. Martin Cassidy kicked a fabulous point after a frontal charge on Pauric Gill incredibly went unpunished but Ballymahon struck for the killer goal with time up. We wish a speedy recovery to club stalwart Cian Brady (whose early retiral was a devastating blow) after suffering a very bad knee injury and Pauric Gill (broken nose and fractured jaw). Thank you to Bridie Reilly and Dr. Derek Gallagher for tending to the injured parties. The team and scorers were as follows:  Paddy Collum; Stephen Cosgrove, Cian Brady, Paul McGee; Emmet Noonan, Gary Connell, JP Farley; Liam Lynch (0-2), David Collum; Pauric Gill (1-2), Conor Keenan, Sean Whelan; Mark Hughes (0-2), Martin Cassidy (0-3, 1f), Cian Cassidy.  Subs used: Kaelum Gill, Jamie Nertney, Mark Breslin, Aiden Gray, Podge Gill  Lotto  The lotto draw took place on Monday last, October 10th in Quinn’s Bar, Drumlish. The Jackpot was €9,200. Results are currently on the club’s website and social media and will be published in next week’s notes. Thank you to all who support our lotto. Please play again at the below link selecting the Fr Manning Gaels option or from the usual sellers/locations.   https://member.clubspot.app/club/fr.manning-gaels-gaa/fundraiser/tickets    1997 Anniversary  On Saturday night last the club held a dinner for the 1997 senior championship winning team in PV’s in Longford. A great night was had by all and it was great to see so many greats back in the parish after a number of years away. At half time of the senior final the county board recognised the team on the occasion of the 25th anniversary and the club would sincerely like to thank the county board for extending the invitation to us.    Senior Scór  Well done and hard luck to our Scór quiz team who placed third in the competition last Thursday night. Our competitors were Pauric Gill, Joseph Gill, Ciarán Cooney and Padraig Lillis.     Coaching Workshop  We are excited to host a top-class Coaching Workshop by Shane Stapleton’s “Our Game” on Saturday, October 15th. Three of the best coaches in the country will be in Monaduff from 11am – 1pm on the day. Club News 11-09-2022

Intermediate Championship

Well done to the team and management who came away from Edgeworthstown with a good 2-6 to 1-5 win over Ballymahon in very wet conditions. This result means we play Kenagh in the semi-final on Saturday September 24th. After a slow start where we trailed 0-3 to 0-1, with the point coming from a Martin Cassidy free for a foul on brother Cian, the team kicked into life when Conor Keenan punched to the net after a neat one-two with Martin Cassidy. We lead at the break 1-4 to 0-4 with the other points coming from a Paddy Collum free, Liam Lynch and an excellent strike from Sean Whelan after great defensive play from JP Farley on the stroke of half time. Ballymahon got off to a lightning start on the resumption and went into a one-point lead when they struck for 1-1 within 90 seconds. The team did not panic, however, and got themselves back in front with a pointed free from Martin Cassidy for a foul on himself and an excellent curling effort from the hard-working Cian Cassidy. Martin Cassidy made sure of victory when Sean Whelan cleverly broke a dropping ball from Dean Cosgrave into his path and he slammed it to the net. The team and scorers were as follows: Paddy Collum (0-1,1f), Paul McGee, Cian Brady, Stephen Cosgrave, Kaelum Gill, Emmet Noonan, JP Farley, Liam Lynch (0-1), David Collum, Jamie Nertney, Conor Keenan (1-0), Sean Whelan (0-1), Cian Cassidy (0-1), Martin Cassidy (1-2,2f), Mark Hughes. Subs used: Dean Cosgrave, Podge Gill, Aiden Gray, Derek McCormack

Slán go fóill

The club would like to wish selector Graham Lee a safe journey and the very best as he heads off with Óglaigh na hÉireann for a 6-month tour of Mali. We look forward to seeing Graham back safe and sound and well tanned soon!

Sympathy

The club extends its sincere sympathy to the family and friends of Bernadette Reilly (née Hodge), Cloonaugh Upper, who passed away last week. Bernie always supported the Gaels and the maroon and gold flag would always be proudly flying outside the house whether for the Gaels, St. Vincent’s or St. Helen’s. Solas na bhFlaitheas uirthi.
