Fr. Manning Gaels 0-06
Longford Slashers 1-09
It was an evening to forget for our Reserve team as they went down by 6 to a much slicker Longford Slashers outfit. In wet conditions in Monaduff, the young Slashers side punished every mistake made and once they converted a penalty in the 6th minute they never looked like losing. The Gaels were down 1-7 to 0-2 at half time with our only scores coming from Petie Collum in the 2nd minute and an excellent long range effort from Eoin Keane just before half time. The home side showed much more spirit in the second half and had the same battling qualities been on display in the first a much closer contest would have taken place. In particular, Nigel Kiernan and Mickey Kelly in the half back line put in a lot of hard work and never gave up. Placed balls from Eoin Keane, Petie Collum and an excellent individual score from substitute Scott Howe were unfortunately not enough to reduce the deficit sufficiently and Slashers ended up the victors on a score line of 1-9 to 0-6.
