Senior Championship: Our senior team are out in the third round of the championship this Saturday evening, August 5th, at 7pm in Páirc na nGaeil, Dromard against St. Mary’s, Granard. This is a do or die encounter for both sides so we wish Gary, Mike, Anthony and the squad all the best. The lads have been putting in a massive effort so it would be great to see big support out from the parish to help them across the line. Jimmy Flynn ACFL Division 3: There is a busy week ahead for our juniors as we face Killoe in Clonee tonight (Wednesday, August 2nd) at 8.30pm and then our lads are out again on Sunday, August 6th at home to Longford Slashers at 2pm. Please support. Please note the above fixture change. Lotto: The Lotto draw was held last Monday, July 24th in The Olde Village Inn, Drumlish. The Jackpot was €7,000. Marquee in Drumlish – Volunteer Night: We are holding a volunteer registration night this Friday night, August 4th between 8.30 and 9.30pm in Monaduff for anyone who can help steward or work behind the bar at the Marquee. Referee Debut: Well done to clubman Kenneth Leonard who refereed his first senior championship game at the weekend. Ken took charge of the Colmcille and Granard encounter and we wish him all the best in his refereeing career. Killoe v Longford Slashers: We held our first senior championship match on Sunday last as Killoe and Longford Slashers faced off in the second round. A massive thank you to all our volunteers who stewarded, parked cars, directed traffic and sold lotto envelopes at half time. Thanks also to Thomas Gill and his team who had Monaduff looking so well. Water Safety & Awareness Information Evening: Annagh Sports & Lesiure Group & Longford Sub Aqua in conjunction with Dromard Healthy Club and the RNLI ( the charity that saves lives at sea) will host an information evening on Water Safety and Awareness for our community this Thursday 3rd August at 8.15pm at the Dromard GAA clubhouse.  This event is open to all the community both young and old particularly parents and teenagers. A guest speakers from the RNLI will give a presentation on the current campaign they are running which is “Respect The Water” and the speakers from Longford Sub Aqua will talk about their role in the community and the basic water safety skills each of us need to call on if you find yourself in difficulty in the water.

Minor News – 01-10-2017

Hard Luck to St. Vincents Minor Football u14 Team & their Coaches who were defeated in their final against Grattan Gaels last Saturday. Team Members are Cody Lee, Jake Devlin, Gerard Mealy, Sean McKenna, Jamie Nertney, Jim Rodgers, Mikey O’Neill, Paul McGee, Adam Maher, Kieran Mulligan, Auley Thomas, Eoin Mealy, Dylan Quinn, Eoin Murtagh, Anthony Bispo, Kaelum Gill, James Garvey, Orrin Greene, Rory McEvoy, Nathan Maher & Cian Tierney.  We are proud of each of you and look forward to seeing you all again next year.

U21 Championship: The U21 championship takes place Saturday evening, October 7th at 5pm in Monaduff against Granard/Ballymore. This was due to take place last week, however as a result of a minor championship fixture clash, it was postponed. Best of luck to the team and management. Please come out and support.

Lotto: The Lotto draw was held last Wednesday, September 27th in Dillon’s Bar, Ballinamuck. The draw was postponed on Monday night as a result of the Senior Ladies football championship final replay which was played in Monaduff. The Jackpot was €7,800. The numbers drawn were as follows:

St. Vincent’s U-14 Final: Hard luck to our gallant U14 side who were defeated by Grattan Óg in the championship final on Saturday last on a score line of 5-11 to 1-11. The team deserve great credit for the way they battled until the final whistle and never gave up. Unfortunately it was not to be, however if this group stays at it there will be better days in the future. Thank you to the squad for their effort all year and also to the management team lead by Eamon Gill, who has done phenomenal work, and helped guide them all the way to the final.

Longford GAA Gaelic Football Award 1 Coaching Course: This is a hugely important course due to the fact that all adult club teams must have an Award 1 coach involved since the start of 2016 and by the start of 2018 all adult Club Head Coaches/Managers must be Award 1 qualified.

This course is aimed at coaches of teams from U13 up to and including adults and coaches wishing to attend must hold the Foundation Award for at least the last 12 months.

This course will be ran over 3 Saturdays (10 – 4:00) and 2 Friday nights (7 – 9:30) in November/December and all sessions must be attended in order to complete the course and receive your Award. Lunch will be provided on the Saturdays. Places are available on a first come first served bases (provided the above Foundation requirement is met) and limited to 24 in total. Please contact the office 043 3345 219 to book your place and to pay the earlybird booking fee of €80 (available until Friday November 3rd). If payment is not made by this date the standard cost of €100 will apply and this must be paid in advance of the first session. Cheques made payable to Longford GAA please and posted to Damien Sheridan GAA Office Pearse Park Battery Road Longford or cash/cheques can be dropped in to the office Monday – Friday 10 – 5. Club Lotto: There was no jackpot winner in the club lotto draw on Monday night last 11th. Mar. The numbers drawn were 1, 2, 25 and 30. Congratulations: A special word of congratulations to Jimmy Hannify who was our representative on the 1966 Longford team that won the National League. Jimmy, along with all his surviving team mates, were honoured at a special function in Longford on Friday night last. He also went on to play a major role on the 1968 Leinster championship winning side in what was a golden era for Longford football. He also played a major part on the Fr. Manning Gaels team of the mid 70’s taking the club from junior up to senior status. Well done Jimmy on an award richly deserved.

Best Wishes: Congratulations and best of luck to Paddy McKenna, Currabawn who got drawn out to appear on next week’s Winning Streak. Paddy is a loyal club supporter and his hard work at Monaduff over the years has helped keep our grounds in great condition.
