ACFL Division 2
Legan 1-1 Fr. Manning Gaels 3-17
Our senior team continued their winning ways in the league with a comprehensive 3-17 to 1-1 victory over a battling Legan Sarsfields side. This was the last game to be played at Flood Park before it is refurbished. The Gaels dominated from the first whistle to the last with the Cassidy brothers Martin and David particularly to the fore. The first twenty minutes were not as comfortable as the Gaels would have liked, with many missed chances and handling errors giving reason for concern. These concerns were alleviated when the powerful Aaron Quinn raided forward from wing back to slot in an excellent goal after receiving a tremendous pass from Mark Duffy. This move ended the game as a contest and the half time score was 1-10 to 0-1. The Gaels added two further goals in the second half from Martin Cassidy and Pauric Gill and ran out comfortable 22 point winners despite conceding a sloppy goal midway through the second half

Seniors: Our seniors scored an easy 2-11 to 0-2 win over Kenagh in the division 2 league on Friday evening. The result was never in doubt after Emmet Noonan powered through and found the net mid way through the first half. The visitors had to wait until ten minutes from the end for their first score such was the dominance of the Gaels throughout the park. However, there is still plenty to improve on given the number of wides kicked and shots dropped short. The next game is away to Legan Sarsfields next Friday at 7:30.

Jimmy, along with all his surviving team mates, were honoured at a special function in Longford on Friday night last. He also went on to play a major role on the 1968 Leinster championship winning side in what was a golden era for Longford football. He also played a major part on the Fr. Manning Gaels team of the mid 70’s taking the club from junior up to senior status. Well done Jimmy on an award richly deserved.
Best Wishes: Congratulations and best of luck to Paddy McKenna, Currabawn who got drawn out to appear on next week’s Winning Streak. Paddy is a loyal club supporter and his hard work at Monaduff over the years has helped keep our grounds in great condition.

Junior League
Abbeylara 1-16 Fr. Manning Gaels 0-04
Venue: Oliver Lynch Park
Fr. Manning Gaels Juniors were comprehensively defeated by a strong Abbeylara side in a windy Oliver Lynch Park on Sunday last. The Gaels were forced to play with only 14 players for the majority of the first half until Ken Leonard (who had been refereeing another match) arrived to allow the Gaels go to a full 15. The Gaels were short a number of players who are eligible for this grade and great credit goes to the lads who made themselves available and gave it their all for the 60 minutes. Abbeylara took full advantage of the extra man and utilised the gale at their backs to kick some excellent long range points in the first half. The Half Time score was Abbeylara 0-13 Fr. Manning Gaels 0-3. The Gaels scores came from two well struck frees from Jonathan Connell and a blasted point from Niall Quinn. The Gaels only managed one further score in the second half, which came from the boot of centre half forward Jonathan Connell and Abbeylara ran out convincing winners 1-16 to 0-04.
