Our 13th Marquee in Drumlish Festival was held last weekend and we would like to thank everyone involved for helping make it such a tremendous success. Thank you to the artists who provided such wonderful entertainment on each of the four nights. Thank you to the Gray family for the use of the Old School site. Thank you to the many volunteers who worked in the preparation of the site and over the course of the weekend. There were many early starts and late finishes, but your hard work paid off and is greatly appreciated. Thanks to all those who helped run the Monster Bingo in aid of St Vincents MFC in Ballinamuck on Sunday and to those who ran the youth event in the Marquee on Saturday afternoon. Thanks to An Garda Síochána and the emergency services for their tireless work also.

Thank you to Cathal Quinn of Quinn’s Bar, Drumlish who was our licencing partner this year. Thank you to Mike and Martin Mulleady at Mulleady Properties who sponsored the festival once again this year. Finally, a massive thank you to all those who came from near and far to attend the Festival. We are sure you all had an enjoyable weekend, and we are looking forward to seeing you all back in Drumlish next year. We are extremely grateful to the people of our parish for their continued support in running the Marquee. Without this kind of support from the people of the community it would be impossible for us to stage such an event. Go raibh míle maith agaibh go léir.

Intermediate Championship

We had a good win in the championship on Sunday afternoon last over Ardagh Moydow in Michael Fay Park. The full-time score was 2-15 to 1-9. We got off to the perfect start when a high ball went in on top of Seán Whelan who broke the ball to the oncoming Conor Keenan, who was outstanding, to palm to the net. Jamie Nertney followed this up with a converted free for a foul on Pauric Gill and more scores came from Gill, Nertney, Cian Cassidy, Conor Keenan, Aaron Quinn and an excellent left footed effort from Seán Whelan. Just before the short whistle Cian Cassidy worked his way round the defence after a terrific long ball from Paddy Collum and was hauled down for a penalty, which Collum dispatched. The half time score was 2-8 to 0-4. Ardagh Moydow came back into the game in the second half when they converted a penalty but Jamie Nertney responded, converting some excellent frees for fouls on Dean Cosgrave, Aaron Quinn and Conor Keenan as well as firing over a wonderful effort from play off his left. The remaining scores came from Gill and Keenan as Gaels maintained a commanding lead throughout. Team and scorers were as follows: Paddy Collum (1-0, pen), Paul McGee, Cian Brady, Darren Reilly, Dean Cosgrave, JP Farley, Aaron Quinn (0-1), Seán Whelan, Mark Breslin, David Collum, Conor Keenan (1-3), Kaelum Gill, Jamie Nertney (0-6, 5f), Cian Cassidy (0-1), Pauric Gill (0-2). Subs: Mark Hughes, Martin Cassidy, Ryan Crowe. It was great to see all the lads out afterwards celebrating Cian Brady’s 21st!

Club News 21-07-2024

Intermediate Championship

The championship got off to a disappointing start on Friday evening last when we were defeated by Killashee 2-10 to 1-11. The team raced into a 0-6 to 0-1 lead after 15 minutes but it was all Killashee after that, and they kicked 1-7 without reply to lead 1-8 to 0-6 at the break. The second half was a different game and Gaels immediately responded with a Pauric Gill goal after a neat one-two with Conor Keenan. With Sean Whelan in great form in midfield Gaels eventually went two points clear, before conceding a sloppy goal with ten to go. Gaels kept trying for the equaliser and one last effort dropped short from which Killashee countered for the insurance point. The next outing is Sunday week against Ballymore. Team and scorers were as follows: Paddy Collum, Cian Brady, JP Farley, Paul McGee, Dean Cosgrave, Darren Reilly, Kaelum Gill, Sean Whelan, Mark Breslin, Jamie Nertney (0-2), Fergal Reilly, Conor Keenan (0-2), Martin Cassidy (0-3, 1f), Pauric Gill (1-2), Cian Cassidy (0-2). Subs: Mark Hughes, Aaron Quinn, Cathal Quinn. The Division 5 team received the points from Mostrim on Wednesday evening last.

Hard luck to our Division 4 team who were beaten in the Bertie Allen Cup semi-final by Grattans last Friday evening, 1-12 to 1-10. Team and scorers were as follows: Cody Lee, Sean McKenna, Declan Donnelly, Caelum McGee, Kevin Whitney, Stephen Cosgrave, Tom McGee, Jim Rogers, Mark Breslin, Ryan Crowe (0-5, 4f), Kevin Whelan (1-0), Petie Collum (0-4, 1f), Aiden Gray, Cathal Quinn, Orrin Greene (0-1). Subs: Sean Whelan, Chris Crowe, Podge Gill. There is a Division 5 match this evening Wednesday in the Laurels against Mullinalaghta at 7.30pm. Best of luck to all involved.

Patsy Reilly Cup

On Sunday afternoon last we were defeated in the league semi-final by Sean Connollys, 2-14 to 1-9. Gaels started brightly with a couple of excellent scores from Sean Whelan, after a neat Cian Cassidy pass and a Conor Keenan score before Cian Brady had to retire with a nasty head injury. His replacement Aaron Quinn made an immediate impact as he powered through for a fine point after being placed by Pauric Gill to leave scores 0-3 apiece midway through the first half. It was all Connollys after this however and they led 0-9 to 0-3 at the break. We got ourselves back into the match when Paddy Collum converted a penalty after Gill was brought down and the latter then missed a goal chance to level proceedings. Keenan fired over a couple more excellent points to keep Gaels in contention but the concession of two goals in the space of a minute with ten minutes left saw Connollys hold an unassailable lead. Cassidy rounded off the Gaels scoring from frees for fouls on himself and Gill. We wish Cian Brady a speedy recovery from the head injury he sustained in the early stages of the game.Team and scorers were as follows: Paddy Collum (1-0, pen), Sean McKenna, Cian Brady, Paul McGee, Dean Cosgrave, Darren Reilly, JP Farley, Mark Hughes, Sean Whelan (0-1), Caelum McGee, Ryan Crowe, Tom McGee, Cian Cassidy (0-3, 2f), Pauric Gill (0-1), Conor Keenan (0-3).
