Intermediate Championship

The fourth round of the Intermediate Championship took place last Saturday and we fell to a very disappointing 2-14 to 1-11 defeat against Cashel. Two soft goals conceded either side of half time coupled with erratic shooting and poor shot selection proved our downfall. A significant improvement will be required this Saturday against Kenagh in Ardagh at half 6 if we hope to qualify for the semi-final. We fell 0-3 to nil down in the opening stages before Cian Cassidy opened our scoring with a nice effort from play, then brother Martin converted a free for a foul on Pauric Gill. Cashel regained their three-point lead and we came back on level terms thanks to frees by Paddy Collum and Martin Cassidy for fouls on Gill, Emmet Noonan and Cassidy himself. A killer blow came on the stroke of half time when an effort for a point dipped into the net and this left Cashel 1-7 to 0-6 up at the break. There were a number of squandered chances on the resumption before Cashel hit the net for a second time and we were fighting an uphill battle from then on when the trend of missed opportunities continued. Some nice scores did come from substitute Podge Gill, Conor Keenan and Martin Cassidy converted frees for fouls on himself and Pauric Gill, before Cassidy notched a consolation goal near the end. The team and scorers were as follows: Paddy Collum (0-2, 2f), Paul McGee, Cian Brady, Stephen Cosgrave, JP Farley, Emmet Noonan, Mark Hughes, Liam Lynch, Sean Whelan, Pauric Gill, Conor Keenan (0-1), Jamie Nertney, Cian Cassidy (0-1) Martin Cassidy (1-5,5f), Dean Cosgrave. Subs: Podge Gill (0-2), Kaelum Gill, Philip Kane
