ACFL Division 1

We came away from Higginstown with a hard-fought point against Granard. Both teams finished level on 9 points apiece. We lead 0-6 to 0-4 at the break with scores coming from Conor Keenan, two Martin Cassidy frees after fouls on Pauric Gill, a great outside of the boot point from distance by Sean Whelan, Eoin Keane after great work from Emmet Noonan and Mark Hughes and debutant Jamie Nertney slipped over a fine point when put in by Gill who received a great ball down the wing from Mark Breslin. Granard were reduced to 13 with two black cards and we failed to capitalise on this with numerous missed opportunities. Granard pulled it back level mid-way through the second half but we went in front again with points from Pauric Gill and frees by Cassidy after the former was fouled on both occasions. Granard converted a free in injury time to level the game. The team and scorers were as follows:

Aiden Gray, Paul McGee, Cian Brady, Sean McKenna, JP Farley, Gary Connell, Conor Keenan (0-1), Emmet Noonan, Sean Whelan (0-1), Mark Hughes, Pauric Gill (0-1), Mark Breslin, Jamie Nertney (0-1), Podge Gill, Martin Cassidy (0-4, 4f)

Subs used:

Eoin Keane (0-1), Cian Cassidy, Kevin Whelan, Stephen Donnelly

Speedy recovery to Podge Gill and JP Farley who both sustained injuries during the course of the match. Congratulations and best of luck to Emmet Noonan and Mark Hughes who were named as captain and vice captain of the team for the year. Well done also to the three young men who made their senior debuts, Jamie Nertney, Sean McKenna and Paul McGee. Thank you to Cathal Reilly for sponsoring food for the lads afterwards.
