Intermediate Championship

The championship got off to a disappointing start on Friday evening last when we were defeated by Killashee 2-10 to 1-11. The team raced into a 0-6 to 0-1 lead after 15 minutes but it was all Killashee after that, and they kicked 1-7 without reply to lead 1-8 to 0-6 at the break. The second half was a different game and Gaels immediately responded with a Pauric Gill goal after a neat one-two with Conor Keenan. With Sean Whelan in great form in midfield Gaels eventually went two points clear, before conceding a sloppy goal with ten to go. Gaels kept trying for the equaliser and one last effort dropped short from which Killashee countered for the insurance point. The next outing is Sunday week against Ballymore. Team and scorers were as follows: Paddy Collum, Cian Brady, JP Farley, Paul McGee, Dean Cosgrave, Darren Reilly, Kaelum Gill, Sean Whelan, Mark Breslin, Jamie Nertney (0-2), Fergal Reilly, Conor Keenan (0-2), Martin Cassidy (0-3, 1f), Pauric Gill (1-2), Cian Cassidy (0-2). Subs: Mark Hughes, Aaron Quinn, Cathal Quinn. The Division 5 team received the points from Mostrim on Wednesday evening last.
