Jodie Nertney RIP
The club was very saddened to learn of the passing of Jodie Nertney in America. Jodie was former secretary of the club, when we were called Éire Óg, and did trojan work at schoolboy level, training teams and bringing players to matches before emigrating to the United States. He retained a keen interest in the fortunes of the Gaels throughout his life. In recent years on trips home to Drumlish, he was an invaluable source of information with regards to the history of our club. We extend our sincere sympathy to his wife Kathleen, children, brother Benny (former club chairman) wider family and many friends. Solas na bhFlaitheas air.
Intermediate Championship
We played Sean Connollys on Sunday last in the third round of the intermediate championship. Short a number of regulars, we were well beaten in the end, 4-9 to 1-9. We led by two points midway through the second half and then conceded two gift goals and Connollys never looked back from there. It was level at half time, 1-4 to 0-7, with both sides unlucky not to have another goal each after good saves from the keepers. Our scores came from Conor Keenan (3), Pauric Gill (2), Martin Cassidy and Kevin Whelan. After falling two behind on the resumption, Aiden Gray fisted a lofted ball from Kevin Whelan to the net and Martin Cassidy converted a free for a foul on Pauric Gill but that was as good as it got as Connollys took over after that, as Conor Keenan struck over a late consolation point. The team and scorers were as follows: Paddy Collum, Jamie Nertney, Cian Murphy, Paul McGee, Kaelum Gill, JP Farley, Dean Cosgrave, Pauric Gill (0-2), Mark Hughes, Cian Cassidy, Conor Keenan (0-4), Martin Cassidy (0-2,1f), Kevin Whelan (0-1), Aiden Gray (1-0), Ryan Crowe. Subs used: Liam Lynch, Stephen Cosgrave, Orrin Greene. Speedy recovery to Eoin O’Hara who hurt himself in training during the week. We play Grattan Og in the next round this Sunday at 5.15pm in Ballymore. The very best of luck to Fintan, Mick, Graham and the lads.
