U13 Championship
Pride of place this week goes to our St. Vincent’s U13 team who qualified for the championship A final for the second year in a row after beating Dromard in the semi-final last Tueday week. Well done to the team and management team of Gordon Smyth, Bobby Hilton and Paul Dowler
Intermediate Championship
We got the Intermediate championship campaign off to a winning start last Saturday in difficult greasy conditions in the splendid Dunbeggan grounds against Ardagh/Moydow on a scoreline of 2-18 to 2-12. We got off to a flying start with 4 points in quick succession but Ardagh came back with three on the trot to leave just one in it but two further points left it 0-6 to 0-3 in our favour before Ardagh struck for a goal to level proceedings. Pauric Gill quickly re-established a lead which we did not lose from there and then Liam Lynch slapped a goal after a wonderful pass from captain Emmet Noonan to put some breathing space between the sides. Half time score was 1-11 to 1-6. The second half started sluggishly and we were punished with the concession of an unfortunate goal when a ball spun to an unmarked player after Noonan made an excellent block, but the team rallied and made victory secure after a well-placed Martin Cassidy goal in the 53rd minute. There should have been more goals as Gill and the two Cassidys all hit the crossbar in that intervening period but nonetheless the team held on for the win so well done lads. The next outing is this Friday, August 5th at 8pm in Fr. McGee Park against Sean Connolly’s. The team and scorers were as follows: Paddy Collum, Paul McGee, Cian Brady, JP Farley, Mark Hughes (0-1), Gary Connell, Emmet Noonan, David Collum, Liam Lynch (1-0), Sean Whelan, Conor Keenan (0-3), Pauric Gill (0-6), Jamie Nertney (0-1), Podge Gill, Martin Cassidy (1-5,3f). Subs used: Philip Kane (0-1), Cian Cassidy (0-1), Aiden Gray
