Get well soon David Cassidy: Activities on the football field were put into perspective when news came through last Wednesday morning that our long serving senior footballer David Cassidy had fallen seriously ill whilst on holidays in Prague. We held a special Mass for David on Thursday morning in St. Mary’s Church, Drumlish and we are grateful for the large attendance which turned out. We are glad to report that David is currently doing well and has begun his road to recovery. All of our thoughts and prayers are still with David and his family as he recuperates in hospital. Junior League: Due to a breakdown in communication the league match with Killoe did not go ahead on Sunday last. A challenge match was played instead  in which Killoe ran out comfortable winners. There is no league match this weekend as we have a bye.

Senior League Division 1: Hard luck to our senior team who were defeated by Longford Slashers in the 3rd Round of the Division 1 League on a scoreline of 1-13 to 1-7. Short numerous regulars, this was a brave performance from our lads despite the obvious, difficult circumstances in which the game was played. With only 10 minutes to go there was 3 points separating the sides. Slashers broke on the counter attack to score a goal when there had been a real chance of a goal of our own and this ultimately ended up deciding the match. The team and scorers were as follows:

Paddy Collum, Mickey Kelly, Cian Brady, Dan Gorman, Emmett Noonan, Fergal Reilly, Eoin Keane (0-1,(1f), Anthony Kane, Pauric Gill (0-3), Ciarán Cooney (0-1), Diarmuid Cooney, David Collum, Mark Hughes, Aiden Gray (0-1), Petie Collum (0-1).

Substitutions: Aaron McGee for Fergal Reilly (inj), Nigel Kiernan for Ciarán Cooney, Mark Breslin for Anthony Kane, Seán Whelan for David Collum, Martin Cassidy (1-0) for Aiden Gray.

We were away to Killoe last night (Tuesday). Details in next week’s notes. We wish Fergal Reilly a speedy recovery from the nasty hand injury he sustained in the early stages of the first half. A special word of thanks to the Longford Slashers club for their kind gesture towards David Cassidy after the match. It is greatly appeciated.
